Build Your Own U.S.-spec 2011 Ford Fiesta
Ford has launched a 2011 Ford Fiesta configurator tool. Obviously, you can't actually buy a car right now since our Fiesta doesn't go on understanding until next summer. But you can build and accessorize a 2011 Fiesta hatch or sedan to your heart's content.
You can then "reserve" a built Fiesta and Ford will throw in Sync and an upgraded sound system at no extra charge (so, apparently, no need to spring for the pricier SES model like we did). The offer is non-binding, but if you wanted to take advantage of the freebies, you'd have to build the car before April 2, 2010, and then sign a purchase agreement at a Ford dealership by May 3, 2010.
Another thing you'll notice about the build-your-Fiesta tool is that every time you add an option or accessory (like the snazzy 17s we place on our hypothetical hatchback), the tool adjusts your likely monthly payment. We checked, and it assumed we were going to place $1,780 down and then finance the car at 7 percent for a 60-month term. This is all adjustable, of course. Useful, too. And we're sure Ford hopes it will make the car more captivating to younger buyers who may not have dealt with the hassle of figuring out monthly payments before.
